How Much Does It Cost to Build a Website? 2026 Price Guide

June 9, 20268 min readOren Knaan

"How much does a website cost?" is the question I hear most. The honest answer is "it depends," but "it depends" doesn't help you budget. Here's a real price list, with an explanation of what drives the price and what every shekel is worth.

5 things worth knowing before you ask for quotes

  • A website that costs 800 shekels and a website that costs 6,000 shekels are not the same product at different prices. They're completely different products with completely different results.
  • The price is mainly determined by: design complexity, number of pages, animations and automations, advanced systems, whether content writing is included, and the level of SEO.
  • An experienced freelancer is not inferior to an agency. The difference is in the management process, not the final quality.
  • A quote that's 60% lower than the rest usually doesn't mean you found a bargain. It indicates that something essential isn't included in the offer.
  • For most small businesses, a 4-6 page website with basic SEO is all you need. You don't need more.

What determines the price of a website?

When I get a brief from a new client, I look at five things that affect the price more than anything else.

1. Design

A custom design that a designer creates from scratch adds 2,000-8,000 shekels on top of the development. When it's worth it: when there's a strong, established brand that has to come through in every pixel. When it isn't: when the goal is simply a professional presence. Professionalism is determined mainly by the quality of the content, not the complexity of the design.

2. Number of pages, functions, and systems

A 4-page website is different from a 15-page one, and every additional page adds design and development time. But what changes the price the most is the functions: complex animations, automations (sending emails, messages, reminders), a custom content management system, a user system with login and registration, a members area, or any other advanced functionality. Each of these is a project in itself. A simple booking system, for example, adds at least 3,000-8,000 shekels above the base price.

3. Content writing

This is the factor that surprises people the most. Most quotes don't include content writing. The builder builds, you write. Professional website copywriting costs 300-800 shekels per page. A 5-page website adds 1,500-4,000 shekels to the overall picture.

4. SEO: do you want to gain new clients through the website?

Basic technical SEO, which includes proper structure, headings, and loading speed, is included in a good build. But not every business needs SEO beyond that. If the website is meant mainly to serve existing clients, give them information, allow bookings, or strengthen trust that already exists, then advanced SEO isn't a priority.

On the other hand, if the goal is to win new clients through Google, advanced SEO with content writing and link building is a critical step, not an optional one. A website without SEO aimed at acquiring clients is a business without a sign. It exists, but people don't find it.

5. Warranty and ongoing maintenance

Some builders include a one-year warranty. Some don't. Monthly maintenance is always separate. Before you sign, ask what happens when there's a bug three months after the website goes live.

2026 website building price list

The following prices are based on real quotes in the Israeli market. They don't include content writing, images, or hosting, unless stated otherwise. If it's an agency, prices usually jump 2-3 times.

By website type

  • Landing page (one page): ₪1,500-3,500
  • Business website (4-6 pages): ₪3,000-7,000
  • Business website with custom design + SEO: ₪7,000-18,000
  • Online store (up to 100 products): ₪5,000-14,000
  • Website with advanced systems (bookings, users, automations): ₪12,000 and up

Ongoing costs to take into account

  • Hosting: ₪80-200 per month
  • .co.il domain: ₪60-100 per year (not including VAT)
  • Basic maintenance (updates + backups): ₪100-300 per month
  • Full maintenance (+ content updates and support): ₪300-800 per month
The cheapest website you'll find is usually the most expensive in the long run. Rebuilding will cost more than building it right from the start.

Freelancer vs. agency: what's the real difference?

I'm a freelancer. I know I'm not entirely objective on this question, so I'll try to be fair.

Freelancer: one person responsible for everything. More accessible, cheaper, and sometimes faster. The risk is that if they're busy, you worry. If they get sick, the project is delayed.

Agency: a team with a division of roles. There's a project manager, a separate designer, a separate developer. The process is more structured. The price is higher because there are more people being paid salaries.

What people don't know: the quality of the final website isn't determined by the size of whoever built it. I've worked with clients who got a bad website from a big agency and had to rebuild. My rule is simple: look at previous work. If the websites they built look good and work well, the size of the builder is irrelevant.

What's included and what isn't: ask before you sign

The following list is questions I recommend asking every builder before you sign. I put together a fuller version of them here.

  • Content writing for the pages: included? If not, who writes it?
  • Images: included? From a paid or free library?
  • Domain and hosting: who registers them? In my name?
  • SEO: what exactly is done? Technical only or content too?
  • Warranty: for how long? What does it cover?
  • Ownership: do the files belong entirely to me at the end?

Three red flags that signal you should ask questions

  • No work examples to look at: any experienced builder will be happy to show what they've built. If they refuse, that's an answer in itself.
  • Everything included at an extremely low price: an offer that includes design, development, SEO, writing, and warranty for 1,500 shekels doesn't include all of them. Check what's actually being done.
  • Full payment upfront: a serious builder asks for a 30-50% deposit and the balance at the end. Someone who asks for everything upfront leaves you with no leverage if something doesn't go as planned.

Questions and answers about the cost of building a website

How much does it cost to build a website for a small business in Israel?

A basic business website of 4-6 pages costs 3,000-8,000 shekels with a freelancer, and 7,000-20,000 shekels at an agency.

The wide range comes from differences in design, number of pages, and what's included in the offer. Professional content writing, advanced SEO, and custom design can double the base price. Before comparing offers, make sure you're comparing the same product, because two offers for a "business website" can include completely different things.

What's the difference between a freelancer and an agency for building websites?

A freelancer is one person who works directly with you and is usually cheaper. An agency includes a team and a more structured process.

The agency is more expensive because of operating costs, not because the result is better. An experienced freelancer can produce an identical or better result. The important question isn't freelancer or agency, it's who has built websites in your field and can show them and give real references.

What's usually included in the price of building a website?

Usually included are design, development, installing a content management system, mobile adaptation, and basic technical SEO.

What's usually not included: content writing for the pages, images, domain and hosting, monthly maintenance, and advanced SEO with link building. Before you sign, ask explicitly about each of these items. Surprises after you've signed always cost more than checking beforehand.

What's the difference between a basic website and a website with advanced systems?

A basic website includes information pages and contact. A website with advanced systems includes animations, automations, a user system, and functions that require custom development.

Every advanced feature is a project in itself. A simple automation that sends an automatic email adds 1,500-3,000 shekels. A booking system with a calendar adds 4,000-8,000 shekels. A members area with personal login, protected content, and recurring payments can add 10,000-20,000 shekels. Before ordering, ask what exactly the feature does and how it will be delivered at the end.

Is Wix worth it for a business?

Wix suits a quick basic presence. For a business that wants to grow, add functions, and rank on Google, it's limiting.

A Wix subscription costs 50-200 shekels a month, meaning 600-2,400 shekels a year, forever. The alternative is to pay once for the build and afterwards only hosting. Wix limits technical options and advanced SEO. For growing businesses, moving from Wix to another solution usually costs as much as a rebuild.

How much does it cost to build an online store?

A basic WooCommerce store costs 5,000-14,000 shekels with a freelancer, a complex store 10,000-35,000 shekels.

A proper store isn't built cheaply. It includes integration with payment gateways (credit card, PayPal), an inventory management system, product pages, and a checkout page. If someone offers a full store for 2,000 shekels, ask what isn't included, because something is surely missing. Shopify is an alternative that costs 100-350 shekels a month in subscription, in addition to the design.

How much does website maintenance cost per month?

Basic maintenance costs 100-300 shekels a month, full maintenance with content updates and support costs 300-800 shekels.

Without ongoing maintenance, a website accumulates technical debt and may get hacked. System updates and backups aren't optional, they're essential. Hosting costs 80-200 shekels a month separately. If you don't want to pay monthly maintenance, it's worth learning to do it yourself, and it's not complicated.

Why are there such big differences in website building prices?

Four main things: the builder's experience, what exactly is included, the level of design, and who writes the content.

A 1,500 shekel offer usually doesn't include content writing, custom design, or SEO. An 8,000 shekel offer may include all of them. Before comparing prices, you need to know exactly what each offer includes. Two offers that look identical on the surface can include very different things.

Is it worth building a website yourself?

If you need a minimal presence and have time to learn, Wix allows self-building. If you want a website that ranks on Google and brings clients, building it yourself usually won't be enough.

The real cost of building it yourself is time. If an hour of your work is worth 200 shekels and you spend 40 hours on the website, the opportunity cost is 8,000 shekels. In addition, a website built by someone who doesn't know SEO and branding usually doesn't help the business the way it should.

What is SEO and how does it affect the price of the website?

SEO is what makes Google show your website when someone searches for your service. Technical SEO is included in a good build; advanced SEO is a separate service.

Advanced SEO with content writing and link building costs 1,500-5,000 shekels a month. Not everyone needs it. For most small businesses, basic technical SEO with a few content pages is enough to start. Google has released a basic SEO guide that's worth knowing.

How many pages does a business website need?

For most small businesses, 4-6 pages are enough: home, about, services, portfolio, blog, and contact.

More pages doesn't mean a better website. A website with 4 complete, accurate pages is better than one with 15 partial pages. The blog is the exception: every post is another page that Google indexes, and each such page has the potential to bring traffic.

What are the red flags in a website quote?

Four flags: no work examples, the offer doesn't specify what's included, they ask for full payment upfront, and they offer everything at a price 70% lower.

A fifth flag that's talked about less: the builder doesn't ask questions about your audience, your goal, and what counts as success. A builder who starts designing before understanding what you sell and to whom will build a website that looks good but doesn't work.

How much does a custom website design cost?

Custom design adds 2,000-8,000 shekels on top of the development price. For most small businesses it isn't necessary.

Custom design is worth the investment when there's a strong, clear brand that has to come through, not when the goal is simply to look professional. Professionalism is determined mainly by the quality of the content, not the complexity of the design.

How much does it cost to add a blog to a website?

Adding a blog to an existing website costs 500-1,500 shekels, depending on design complexity.

A blog is the SEO investment with the highest long-term ROI. An article you wrote in 2025 can keep bringing clients five years later with no additional investment. The cost of writing a good article is 500-1,500 shekels per post. An article that ranks high on Google is worth much more than that over the life of the page.
